Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Candlelight Series spotlights Bengtson and Skoraczewski in Chopin’s Cello Sonata

Philadelphia, PA - (May 7, 2003) - Pianist Matthew Bengtson will be appearing in concert along with
cellist Dariusz Skoraczewski in Chopin’s Cello Sonata in G minor, op. 65 at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 11
at the Second Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, MD.
The concert is part of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Candelight Series and also includes a performance
of Schubert’s String Quintet in C major, D. 956.
Mr. Bengtson serves on the faculty of Settlement Music School in Philadelphia and the piano staff of the
Curtis Institute of Music, and is a winner of numerous international and national piano awards and fellowships.
He attended the École Américaine at Fontainebleau, where he studied a variety of French piano and
chamber music and was awarded the Prix de la Ville de Fontainebleau for piano performance. A FIDE master (FM) and
National Master (NM), Mr. Bengtson competes internationally with some of the world’s finest chess masters and last
summer won the Midland Open in England. He has also won several amateur golf tournaments and has a 3 handicap.
Mr. Skoraczewski is a Polish native who came to Peabody to study with Stephen Kates and is now a member of
the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra as well as the Baltimore Symphony.
